| 1958 | - | The Mesquite Championship Rodeo opens it chutes. The Founders are NEAL GAY, 5-time world champion bull rider HARRY TOMKINS, top rodeo clown D.J. "KAJUN Kidd" GAUDIN, the late 16-time world champion JIM SHOULDERS, IRA AKERS and BOB GRANT. Professional action was held on Fridays and Saturdays, from April through August, and on Saturdays only in September because of competition from high school football. The Arena held 3,700. Most people didn't give it a chance. A weekly rodeo held in one place never been tired. The partners lost $13,000 that first season. General admission tickets cost 90 cents and 50 cents for children. The souvenir program cost 25 cents and boasted on the cover, "Mesquite World's Championship Rodeo." Neal Gay and partners were thinking big. | ||
| 1961 | - | "Route 66" the TC series starring Martin Milner and George Maharas, shot a segment at the rodeo. Slim Pickens, a buddy of Neal Gay was in the cast. | ||
| 1964 | - | Rodeo officials had a roof installed over the arena. Before the fans were drenched when it rained. These are the days before I-635 passed by the front door. Neal and his wife Kay gave directions to the arena over the phone, but fans still got lost trying to find the place. | ||
